About

Who are we?

Flames and Lilies Climate Initiative (FLCI) is a Harare-based ecofeminist youth climate organisation working at the intersection of climate justice and gender equality. Recognising the link between environmental degradation and the rights of girls and women, FLCI champions an African eco-feminist approach to tackling the climate crisis in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Vision statement

To create a world where girls and young women’s voices are at the forefront of climate action, disaster reduction and policymaking.

Mission

Our mission is to enhance and amplify the voices of girls and young women from diverse backgrounds, ensuring their active participation in shaping Zimbabwean and global climate policies and disaster management strategies.

How do we work?

Our core activities include hosting co-learning workshops on climate change, disasters, gender, and feminist participatory action research. With these skills, we support adolescent girls and young women in researching environmental and climate issues impacting their communities.

We view our work through three lenses:

Capacity Building: FLCI equips girls and young women with the knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities needed to create a more just and sustainable future.
Storytelling: By amplifying girls’ voices and experiences, FLCI fosters an understanding of the gendered dimensions of climate change.
Advocacy: FLCI influences policies and legislation to ensure they consider the needs and perspectives of girls and young women.
